No. 5 Women's Lacrosse Cruises To 20-10 Victory Over No. 11 Merrimack, 20-10; Olen Records School Record Nine Goals

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (April 7, 2012) – Third-ranked C.W. Post cruised to a 20-10 victory over No. 11 Merrimack College in a non-conference women's lacrosse match played Saturday afternoon at Martone-Mejail Field.
 
C.W. Post improves its overall record to 8-1 while Merrimack slips to 4-5.
 
Junior attacker Ashley Olen (East Islip, N.Y.) registered both a career-high as well as a school record nine goals and added two assists, including five goals in the second half.  Junior Abigail Ross (Miller Place, N.Y.) scored six goals and assisted on three others while senior midfielder Nan Mayott (Islip, N.Y.) added three goals and three assists.  Sophomore attacker Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) scored one goal and assisted on five.
 
Junior Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) made 12 saves in goal to preserve the win for the Pioneers.  Sophomore Katie Hannan (Gansevoort, N.Y.) allowed one goal and made one save in the final 2:51 of the game. 
Mary Pasquantonio led the Warriors with three goals while teammate Colleen Strachan added two goals and two assists.
 
The Pioneers took a 2-0 lead on goals from Olen and Mayott.
 
The Warriors put their first goal in at 22:55 when Strachan connected to Alicia Tinsley for a goal out front.
 
The Pioneers responded with three goals from Olen, Mayott and Ross to increase their lead to 5-2.
 
Merrimack threatened towards the end of the half with three unanswered goals that cut the Pioneers' lead down to 9-6.  Olen scored her fourth goal of the game on a dish from Mayott with 50 seconds left to give C.W. Post a 10-6 lead at the half.
 
Merrimack tallied the first goal of the second half when Pasquantonio scored her third goal on a pass from Tyler Szymanski.
 
The Pioneers answered with two more goals from Olen and Ross, both assisted by Sileo to keep their lead at 12-7.
 
Merrimack scored its eighth goal of the game from Olivia Huie before C.W. Post scored a man-up goal by Olen that started an 8-0 Pioneer run.
 
The Warriors scored the final two goals of the game at 7:20 from Strachan and with 28 seconds remaining from Katherine Millin.
 
C.W. Post finished the game outshooting the Warriors, 34-26, and held a 21-15 ground ball advantage.  The Pioneers were also ahead in draw controls at 17-15.
 
C.W. Post returns to action on Tuesday, April 10 at St. Thomas Aquinas at 4 p.m.
