BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (May 6, 2012) – The C.W. Post baseball team played another extra-inning contest against Dowling, stretching the span to over 40 innings in three games played, but coming up on the short end of a 6-5, 13-inning decision on Sunday afternoon at Golden Lions Field.

Dowling takes sole possession of second place in conference play with a 28-17 overall and a 17-7 record in ECC action while the Pioneers fall into third place with a 27-18 slate overall and a 16-8 record in conference play.

The Pioneer staked a 3-0 lead in the top of the second as sophomore left fielder Ryan Sloane (Westbury, N.Y.) roped a two-run single., followed by a bunt single by Angel Pimentel (New York, N.Y.) that scored Sloane from third.

The visitors tacked on a run in the fourth as an error on David Saldana's (Deer Park, N.Y.) sacrifice bunt allowed the run to score.

In the fourth, Dowling made the score 4-3 as Sean Craig, JC Brandmaier and Taylor Bargiacchi each had RBI hits in the inning.

The Pioneers added a run in the eighth on an RBI double down the left field line by Phil LoPrete (Bellerose, N.Y.), but Dowling answered back in the bottom of the inning on another RBI single by Brandmaier followed by an RBI hit by Danny Masiello to tie the score at 5-5.

Following the same path as the previous day, both teams played scoreless baseball in extra innings, but unlike yesterday's 20-inning affair, the Golden Lions struck in the 13th as Brandmaier drove in his third run of the game with two outs to defeat the Pioneers.

Offensively, Sloane's two hits paced the Pioneers, while the pitching decision went to Connor McCarthy (Westbury, N.Y.), who took the loss, allowing one run on one hit.

The Pioneers await the final seedings of next week's ECC Championships to find out their opponent.
