ECAC All-Star Squad Recognizes Four Women's Lacrosse Players
CENTERVILLE, Mass.—The Eastern College Athletic Conference on Wednesday announced its 2012 Division II Women's Lacrosse All-Star Team, headlined by LIU Post's
Chelsea Donaldson (Bay Shore, N.Y.) who earned Defensive Player of the Year honors, as well as
Lauren Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.),
Ashley Olen (East Islip, N.Y.) and
Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.), who were all named 2012 All-Stars.
Donaldson helped LIU Post capture its third national championship while earning All-NCAA Tournament honors in the process. A two-time IWLCA All-American and East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year, she anchored a defense that finished fifth in Division II allowing just 8.39 goals per game. The senior captain put up strong numbers by picking up a team-high 45 ground balls and causing 16 turnovers.
Spagnoletta, a graduating senior, was a two-time IWLCA All-American
midfielder, totaled 58 points (44g, 14a), a team-high 53 draw controls, 27 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. She finished her career ranked fourth in the Pioneer's career scoring list with 170 goals.
Sileo was named Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Championships as well as the ECC Player of the Year during her sophomore season, and earns her second straight All-America citation as she totaled a Division II-best 141 points with 45 goals and 96 assists. She also set a new program record for single-season points and assists.
Olen, a junior, rebounded from an ACL tear that forced her to the sidelines in 2011 by returning to form that saw her earn All-America honors in 2010. She led the Pioneers and was second in Division II as she totaled 74 goals in 2012, setting a new program record for single-season scoring.
LeMoyne's Brittany Brigandi was named the offensive player of the year, while Allison Smithwick from Dominican was tabbed the Rookie of the Year. The head coaches, or his/her designee, within the ECAC membership voted on the teams and individual awards.
