Football Announces Hall Of Fame Class Of 2012 Inductees

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (August 16, 2012) – LIU Post head football coach Bryan Collins along with the Football Hall of Fame Committee announced that four former Pioneer standouts Paul Engelhardt '90, Isaiah Williams '02, Peter Lazare '04 and Joe Gangemi '04, and will be inducted as the Class of 2012 on Thursday, Sept. 27 in the Tilles Center Atrium.

Engelhardt, a defensive back, was a four-year starter who played from 1987-90.  He registered 158 tackles along with 26 pass break ups and seven interceptions.  Named a College Football Preview Preseason All-American in 1990, Engelhardt was also recognized as a Liberty Conference Second Team All-Star in 1987 and 1988.  Engelhardt was also a member of the 1986 Sachem High School Rutgers Trophy Team.

Williams, a defensive lineman, played between 1999-02 and quietly developed into one of the top defensive lineman in the program's history.  He finished his career with 164 tackles, 24.5 sacks (including nine in 2000) as well as 21 tackles for loss.  He saw action in every game as a true freshman and helped lead the Pioneers capture EFC Atlantic Division titles in 1999 and 2000 as well as Northeast-10 championships in 2001 and 2002.  Williams was named the NE-10 Defensive Player of the Year in 2002 and was an EFC Second Team All-Star selection in 2000. 

Lazare, a defensive end, played from 2001-04 and was the 2003 and 2004 Northeast-10 Defensive Lineman of the Year.  He made 179 career tackles, including 69 his senior year, and added 30 sacks as well as 17 tackles for loss.  Lazare later played for the Green Bay Blizzard, Dallas Desparados and Columbus Destoyers of the Arena Football League.  He also spent time on the Pioneer staff coaching the outside linebackers during the 2007 and 2008 seasons.

Gangemi, a linebacker, was also a member of the squad along with Lazare from 2001-04.  He is one of only two players that served as a three-time captain in the program's history.  He registered 286 tackles, including 15.5 for loss, along with 13 sacks.  He was named a Northeast-10 First Team All-Conference selection in 2002 and 2004 and was the NE-10 Defensive Player of the Year in 2003 and 2004.  Williams was also recognized as an ECAC All-Star in 2004.
