Lystad, Kristjansson Earn ECC Player, Rookie of the Week Praise
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Oct. 15, 2013) - On Tuesday, the East Coast Conference handed out its weekly men's soccer awards, and a pair of LIU Post players garnered recognition. Sophomore Carl Lystad (Oslo, Norway) was dubbed the league's offensive player of the week, while freshman Johann Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) landed top rookie honors.
Lystad accrued a career-high six points (2 G, 2 A) last Wednesday in a 6-1 drubbing of Nyack. Five of them, including his first collegiate goal, occurred over a seven-minute span in the first half.
Kristjansson, who is now the ECC's best rookie for the second time in three weeks, added a tally in each of the Pioneers' two contests last week. He tickled the twine versus Nyack, and followed that with the deciding marker Saturday in a 3-0 victory at Bridgeport.
Kristjansson presently ranks as LIU Post's second-leading scorer at 15 points (7 G, 1 A). With that total, he sits third in the ECC in goals, and fifth in points.
Lystad, Kristjansson and the Pioneers return to the pitch Wednesday (Oct. 16), when they host Molloy at the LIU Post Men's Soccer Field in Brookville, N.Y. The opening kick is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
