BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 17, 2013) - Sophomore forward Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) registered her first hat trick of the season, as she and the fifth-ranked LIU Post field hockey team rolled past Northeast-10 foe Adelphi by a score of 5-0 Thursday afternoon in Brookville, N.Y.

Also picking up an assist in the game, Margiotta dribbled to the right flank and made a quick pass across the front of the net to a wide open Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.), who tapped the ball into the cage for the first score of the game after just 16 seconds had passed. With the assist, Margiotta set a new single-season assist record, as it was her 13th of the season.

Margiotta doubled the score for the Pioneers (13-0, 7-0 NE-10) in the 11th minute when she came up with the ball after a scramble in front of the net.

The Pioneers led the Panthers (6-7, 1-4 NE-10), 2-0, after the first half of play.

Margiotta added another two goals in the second half, the first coming off a helper from junior forward Lyn-Marie Wilson (Bridgetown, Barbados) just under six minutes into the period. Less than nine minutes later, Margiotta found the back of the net again. This time, junior defender Taylor-Bay Sutton (Phillipsburg, N.J.) sent a pass from the right sideline that Margiotta received right in front of the goal, and tapped home for the score.

The Pioneers added their fifth and final goal off a penalty corner, when graduate midfielder Dani Crouse (Westville, South Africa) received the first pass on the top right side of the circle and passed to her left to find Dragon at the top of the circle who drilled the shot into the goal for her second of the game.

Picking up her fifth win of the season in goal was freshman Meredith Stocklin (Mount Laurel, N.J.), as she made three saves in her third shutout of the season. On the other side, sophomore Kelly Serrao turned aside 14 shots.

On the game, LIU Post outshot Adelphi by a 22-5 margin, and held a 13-6 advantage in penalty corners.

The Pioneers will next play host to NE-10 opponent Saint Michael's on Sunday (Oct. 20), with play slated to begin at 2 p.m. at Hickox Field.
