OAKDALE, N.Y. (Oct. 8, 2013) - The LIU Post volleyball team suffered its first East Coast Conference loss to rival Dowling Tuesday evening in Oakdale, N.Y. The Pioneers dropped three straight sets for just the second time this season.

With the loss, the Pioneers fell to 13-4 on the season and 5-1 in ECC play, while the Golden Lions improved to 12-7 overall and 3-2 in conference action.

LIU Post led for most of the first set, until Dowling tied the score at 16-all on a Pioneer attack error. Once claiming the lead on the next point, the home squad never looked back, running away with a 9-4 run to close out the set at 25-20.

In the second set, the Pioneers once again led early at 5-3, until the Golden Lions went on a 13-1 run to pull ahead 16-6. The green and gold answered back with a 5-1 run of its own, but it would not be enough as Dowling took the second set handily, 25-13.

The third set was much of the same – the Pioneers led early (7-4), before the Golden Lions pulled away with the win at 25-19.

For LIU Post, senior Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) and freshman Shelby McCool (Eugene, Ore.) finished with seven kills each, while sophomore Melissa Hansen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) chipped in with six of her own. Sophomore Rachel Ringor (Honlulu, Hawaii) led the way defensively with 15 digs, and junior Lulu Centro (Rome, Italy) tossed up a team-high 24 assists.

On the other side, Cassy Kelly and Jessica Kalbfleisch totaled 12 kills apiece to lead Dowling.

The Pioneers look to bounce back on Thursday, as they head to Rockville Centre for an ECC clash with Molloy. The opening serve is set for 7 p.m.
