BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 10, 2013) - Senior forward Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) netted a game-best 25 points Sunday afternoon, but it wasn't enough, as American International sunk 13 threes to defeat the LIU Post men's basketball team, 89-77, in a non-conference tilt at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville, N.Y.

The Yellow Jackets (1-1) opened up an early 16-4 advantage in the first 3:57. Junior guard Bobby Harris (Berlin, N.J.) amassed 11 points in the run, nine of which came off three makes from downtown. Senior guard Spencer Braithwaite (Dorchester, Mass.) added a lay-up, and a trifecta, for a five-point output.

The Pioneers (1-1) answered though, rolling off a 14-2 streak in a four-minute stint to tie the game (18-18) with 11:52 to go. Allen had four of the points. Sophomore guard Dillon Burns (Staten Island, N.Y.) and junior guard P.J. Torres (New Rochelle, N.Y.) each got a bucket.

The visitors would eventually re-claim its double-digit lead, however, at the 3:54 mark of the opening session. A 17-6 burst, paced by a nine-point effort from senior guard Jason Perrier (Bridgeport, Conn.), made it a 39-29 game. Perrier was one of five AIC players to reach double figures in scoring on the day.

LIU Post fired back again at the near-conclusion of the stanza with a 10-3 spurt, which sliced the deficit to three (42-39). Yet, AIC went into the break up by a 47-40 score, off a buzzer-beating trifecta by Harris.

In the latter period, the Yellow Jackets got things started with 11 unanswered points, sealing the Pioneers' fate. Perrier sparked it with one of his team-high four three-pointers.

The hosts managed to close the gap to as few as eight points in the waning seconds. But, it was too late, as American International netted five of its six free ones down the stretch.

In addition to his 25-point showing, Allen grabbed eight boards. Junior forward Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) collected 18 points and nine rebounds. Burns amassed seven points, six boards, four assists and two steals. Torres, junior guard Isiah Stokley (Queens, N.Y.) and junior forward Charles McCann (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) had seven rebounds apiece. Torres and McCann tallied six points each as well.

Head Coach Erik Smiles and the Pioneers are back at it Friday (Nov. 15), when they travel up to Colchester, Vt. for the Saint Michael's Tournament. They will square off with reigning East Region champion Franklin Pierce at 5:30 p.m.
