BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 4, 2013) - The LIU Post women's lacrosse and swimming teams participated in the 2013 Out of the Darkness Walk for Suicide Prevention, held at Old Westbury Gardens on Sunday, Nov. 3.

The teams walked in support of Alexis Pilkington, a friend of the Pioneers who tragically took her own life in 2010.

"Our team walked this event because it hit home with our family here at Post," Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Meghan McNamara said. "One of our seniors lost her best friend due to her taking her life in 2010. We came to support her and the West Islip community. Also, many of us being affected by suicide, cyber-bullying, one way or another … It meant a lot for us to be there yesterday. It hit home to all of us and we wanted to give as much support as we can to anyone in need. It was an amazing event."

The swimming team has worked with, and participated in the walk for a few years after getting involved with the program through an alumnae.
