MANCHESTER, N.H. (Nov. 9, 2013) - After winning its season opener on Friday night over Southern New Hampshire, the LIU Post women's basketball team fell in the second game of the season, 80-73, to Saint Anselm at Stoutenburgh Gym on Saturday in Manchester, N.H.
The Pioneers fell to 1-1 with the loss, while Saint Anselm improved to 2-0.
Junior guard 
Chelsea Williams (Copiague, N.Y.) led all players with a new career-high 29 points. Senior forward 
Shayna Gatling (Baldwin, N.Y.) contributed 13 points off the bench, shooting a perfect 6-of-6 from the field.
The teams went back-and-forth in the first half with the Pioneers grabbing their largest lead of the half at eight at the 4:06 mark (38-30). LIU Post led going into the break, 45-40. Williams scored 21 of her 29 in the opening stanza, while senior guard 
Kiki Sears (Hampton, Va.) added six. The Pioneers' bench outscored the Hawks' reserves, 11-6.
In the second half, the Pioneers extended their halftime lead to nine when senior forward 
Nijah LaCourt (Bronx, N.Y) converted a lay-up at the 18:16 mark. The Hawks continued to battle back though, and would tie the game at five different points in the second half, before pulling away with a 13-4 run over the game's final 4:17.
Briana Jones led Saint Anselm with 23 points. Tori Lehr tallied 14 points, and Candace Andrews chipped in 12 points.
The Pioneers return to action next Saturday (Nov. 16), when they travel to Pleasantville, N.Y. to take on Pace. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
