Baseball Splits at Palm Beach Challenge

LANTANA, Fla. (March 12, 2013) – The LIU Post baseball team split a pair of games at the Palm Beach Challenge, defeating Nyack 1-0 but falling to Palm Beach Atlantic 20-6 on Tuesday evening.
With the split, the Pioneers' overall record now stands at 4-8.
Sophomore pitcher Mike Eckerle (Hewlett, N.Y.) struck out a career high 12 batters as the Pioneers scratched out a run in the bottom of the fourth after sophomore Anthony Brunetti (Bayville, N.Y.) singled, moved up to second a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a Nyack infield error. Eckerle pitched into the ninth but the Warriors put two runners on base with one out. Senior Anthony Zapulla (Staten Island, N.Y.) earned his third save of the season by getting a ground ball double play end the game.
