(March 13, 2013) – The Pioneers' bats came alive as LIU Post topped Caldwell, 11-7. Vinny Iacono (Nesconset, N.Y.), Anthony Brunetti (Bayville, N.Y.) and Matt Bowers (Staten Island, N.Y.) lead the way with two RBIs each, backing Joey Arena (Lakeland, N.Y.), who got the win on the mound, improving to 1-1 on the season. The Pioneers broke out with three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings and added four more in the sixth. After a one-out walk to Kevin Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.), Brunetti singled, both runners moved up on a wild pitch and Chenicek made it 2-0 on another wild pitch when David Grovenveld (Centereach, N.Y.) walked. With runners on second and third, Marc Peretzman (Roslyn Heights, N.Y.) singled through the left side, bringing home Brunetti and Grovenveld. The Pioneers opened up the fifth inning with back-to-back singles by Keith Herring (New York, N.Y.) and Casey McKay (North Massapequa, N.Y.). Herring scored on a wild pitch and Iacono drove in McKay with a sac-fly to center. Chenicek followed with a single and Grovenveld knocked him in with a double down the left-field line. In the bottom of the fifth with two outs and runners on second and third, right fielder John Bellock (Glen Cove, N.Y.) made a diving shoestring catch to end the inning, keeping the score 7-3 Post. LIU Post's offense kept rolling in the sixth. Peretzman opened the inning with a single and was moved over to second by a sacrifice bunt by Bowers. Herring then tripled to left, scoring Peretzman, and McKay followed with a single, knocking in Herring. Iacono laced a double, bringing in McKay, and Brunetti followed that up with a single, scoring Iacono, capping the scoring for the Pioneers.
