BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 5, 2013) – The LIU Post baseball team rallied past Le Moyne College for a 5-3 victory on a chilly Tuesday afternoon.

The Pioneers improve to 3-6 on the season while Le Moyne goes to 5-7.

The Dolphins scored two runs in the second after an infield error allowed the first run to score and an RBI groundout accounted for the second.

The Pioneers sored in the second as senior right fielder Angel Pimentel (New York, N.Y.) worked a leadoff walk, stole second, and advanced to third as the throw sailed into the outfield.  A soft ground ball to the mound by freshman first baseman David Grovenveld (Centereach, N.Y.) drove in Pimentel and cut Le Moyne's lead to one.

The Dolphins tacked on a run in the fourth as Pat Wright lined an RBI single to left.

But the Pioneers tied the game in the sixth as senior third baseman Kevin Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.) led off with a single to right center, and Pimentel followed with a walk.  Both runners advanced on a passed ball, and Grovenveld's flyout to right field scored Chenicek and moved up Pimentel to third.  Pimentel scored two pitches later on a wild pitch.

The Pioneers pitching did a good job keeping the Dolphin offense off the board, and the offense came through in the eighth for two runs.  Pimentel led off with his third walk of the day, stole second, and advanced to third on another throwing error by the catcher, then Grovenveld singled through the left side past the drawn-in infield to drive him in.  The Pioneers added an insurance run as freshman John Bellock (Glen Cove, N.Y.) scored on another infield error.

Four Pioneer pitchers combined to limit the Dolphins to only two earned runs on six hits.

Sophomore Joey Arena (Lakeland, N.Y.) started and threw four innings, giving up two earned on four hits with seven strikeouts.  Sophomore John Susino (West Hempstead, N.Y.) tossed two innings of shutout, no-hit relief, and senior Rafael Martinez (Bronx, N.Y.) followed with another two innings of shutout relief, allowing only two hits.  Senior Anthony Zapulla (Staten Island, N.Y.) got the save as he got two groundouts and a popup to retire the Dolphins in order.

Senior Keith Herring (New York, N.Y.) and freshman Matt Bowers (Staten Island, N.Y.) each had two hits in the win, and Grovenveld had three RBI.

John Mildner was saddled with the loss for Le Moyne.  Brian Stinson had two hits to lead the Dolphins.

Next up for the Pioneers is a trip to Florida, taking on Bloomfield on Friday, March 8.
