No. 1 Women's Lacrosse Tops Southern New Hampshire, 23-8

MANCHESTER, N.H. (March 9, 2013) – The top-ranked LIU Post women's lacrosse team rolled to a 23-8 victory over Southern New Hampshire University behind a dominant offensive performance by the Pioneers on Saturday afternoon.
The win boosts the Pioneers to 3-0 on the season while SNHU drops to 0-3.
Junior attacker Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) continued her strong start to the season with an 11-point afternoon, passing out eight assists and recording a hat trick. Senior Ashley Olen (East Islip, N.Y.) scored six goals and added three assists for nine total points, and both senior Abbie Ross (Miller Place, N.Y.) and junior Katie Rotan (West Islip, N.Y.) fired home five goals. Junior Samantha Losco (Smithtown, N.Y.) registered two goals and one assist, and senior Brie-Claire Drost (Wading River, N.Y.) added a goal and an assist.
Ellie Morin began the afternoon's scoring with a SNHU free position goal at 29:17. The Penmen took a 2-0 lead on Lindsay Bucknam's unassisted marker at 28:47. But the offense got rolling for the visitors as Rotan fired home an unassisted score at 27:50, followed by Losco's unassisted tally at 26:49 that tied the game at two apiece.
Siloe scored her first of the day at 26:38, followed by two Olen goals and markers by Rotan and Ross over the next six minutes to give the Pioneers a 7-2 lead with just over 20 minutes to play in the first half.
Morin scored to break up the Pioneer scoring streak, but another four Pioneer goals pushed the lead to 11-3. Another Morin goal was sandwiched between the next Pioneer streak, which saw the Pioneer close out the half with four straight including two more by Olen, making the lead 15-4 at halftime.
Two straight by Olen and Ross to open the second half made it a 17-4 contest, and although SNHU would tack on four more late goals including two more by Morin, the Pioneers had the game well in hand as they closed out the afternoon with a 23-8 victory.
Senior Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) made three saves on the afternoon as she earned the victory. Junior Katie Hannan (Gansevoort, N.Y.) played the final 9:20 in goal.
Morin led SNHU with five goals, and goalkeeper Maria Ploof made nine saves for the Penmen.
Next on the slate for the Pioneers is a home contest against eighth-ranked New Haven on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
