Women's Swimming Finishes NCAA Championships In 8th Place

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. (March 9, 2013) –
With the final day of the 2013 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships completed, the LIU Post women's swimming team finished in the eight spot of the final team rankings.

The Pioneers finished with 186 total points, while the NCAA overall champion Drury University finished with 432.5 points.

On Day Four, freshmen Meghan Brazier (West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) and Marthe Soerensen (Stavanger, Norway) participated in the preliminary round of the 100-yard freestyle finishing with times of 51.57 and 52.27, respectively.  Sophomore Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden) grabbed her second individual All-America Honors with a third place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:57.65.  Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.) swam in the consolation final of the same event, finishing third (11th overall) with a time of 2:01.88.  Junior Tamara Garriock (Duncan, British Columbia, Canada) registered a time of 2:19.88 in the preliminary round of the 200-yard breaststroke.

Overall, the Pioneers came away with two first place finishes behind Kwok's 200-yard butterfly finish and the 400-yard medley relay team of Pettersson, Kwok, Garriock, and Brazier.  Kwok also finished third in the 100-yard butterfly.  Garriock also had two individual top-eight finishes with a third place finish in the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard freestyle.  Along with her third place finish in the 200-yard backstroke on the final day, Pettersson also finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke.  The 200-yard medley relay team of Seren Jones (Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom), Garriock, Kwok, and Soerensen finished its event in fourth place.
