(April 23, 2013) – The Pioneers dropped both ends of a twin bill with St. Thomas Aquinas on Monday, 9-4 and 4-3. In both games the Pioneers got on the board first but couldn't hold the lead in either game as the defense totaled six errors. In the opener, the Pioneers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Anthony Brunetti (Bayville, N.Y.) singled to left center to score Keith Herring (New York, N.Y.). The Spartans answered back with three in the first and three in the second. The Pioneers scored three of their own in the third to make it a 6-4 game. With the bases loaded, Kevin Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.) singled down the right-field line to score Casey McKay (North Massapequa, N.Y.) and Herring. Joey Arena followed with a single to center that scored Anthony Corona (Carmel, N.Y.) to cap the scoring for the Pioneers. In the second game, Corona opened the scoring for the Pioneers in the first with an RBI double down the left-field line. Later in the inning, Arena reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Brunetti to score. In the third, John Bellock (Glen Cove, N.Y.) brought Corona home with an RBI single through the right side of the infield.
