Baseball Falls to Concordia, 13-12

Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 23, 2013) – The Pioneers blasted three homers and out-hit the Clippers, 16-14, but Concordia wouldn't go away without a fight and came away with a 13-12 walk-off win in non-conference action on Tuesday.
 
After Concordia jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, the Pioneers scored one in the fourth, one in the fifth and broke through in the sixth when they had six come across to score.
 
Vinny Iacono (Glen Cove, N.Y.) got things started with a solo shot in the fourth and Anthony Brunetti (Bayville, N.Y.) scored Keith Herring (New York, N.Y.) with a sac-fly in the fifth.
 
In the sixth, the Pioneers sent 11 men to the plate in a six-run inning. With the Pioneers up 4-2, Brunetti smacked a two-run double that scored Casey McKay (North Massapequa, N.Y.) and Herring. Later in the inning, Kevin Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.) blasted his first homer of the season, a two-run shot, to put the Pioneers up 8-2.
 
Concordia answered with two in bith the bottom of the sixth and seventh.
 
The Pioneers responded with two in their half of the eighth, but Concordia put up a six-spot in the bottom of the inning to make it 12-10 Clippers.
 
In the ninth, David Groeneveld (Centereach, N.Y.) blasted a two-run homer of his own to tie the game at 12, but the bullpen couldn't hold the lead as a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth gave the Clippers the 13-12 win.
 
The Pioneers are back in action on Friday with an ECC matchup against rival Dowling.
