McNamara Tabbed As IWLCA DII Coach of the Year
BROOKIVLLE, N.Y. (June 26, 2013) - The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced its National Coach of the Year awards on Monday, and LIU Post's
Meghan McNamara was named the Division II National Coach of the Year for the second straight year.
She joins Division III Salisbury's Jim Nestor, and Jenny Levy from Division I North Carolina, as each of the three coaches led their teams to the NCAA title and were selected by their peers to receive the national recognition.
McNamara just completed her sixth season as head coach of LIU Post, and reached the pinnacle of success this season as the Pioneers won their second straight NCAA Division II National Championship, defeating Limestone, 10-7. This year's appearance in the NCAA Championships was a record 11
th for the Pioneers, and McNamara's team ended the season with the top ranking in the IWLCA poll.
Going into the season, the defending National Champion Pioneers did not focus on last years' success. McNamara emphasized to her squad that in order to defend their title, they would have to continue to improve and work hard every day. LIU Post responded and finished the season undefeated with a record of 20-0. This years' championship marks the fourth National Championship for the program. The team posted three first team All-Americans, two second team All-Americans and 10 Pioneers were named to the All-Conference team. Among the standouts,
Jackie Sileo earned her second consecutive IWLCA Attacker of the Year honors and
Ashley Olen was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Div. II tournament.
Entering her sixth season leading the Pioneers, McNamara has posted a 99-14 record – including a 37-4 mark in conference play and a 49-5 slate at Hickox Field.
