INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Aug. 12, 2013) - The National Collegiate Athletic Association recently announced the names of its 400-plus nominees for the 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year Award, and LIU Post women's lacrosse senior defender Bridgett Soares (San Diego, Calif.) made the cut.

In 20 games this season, Soares, who was selected to the All-East Coast Conference first-team, accumulated 26 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers, which were 12th-best amongst the league. She also aided the back line in holding the opposition to a minuscule average of 7.05 goals per game.

Off the field, Soares represents her country, serving a four-year stint as a Marine Corps officer candidate, before earning the rank of Second Lieutenant this past May. She has participated in numerous community service initiatives as well, and received several honors for her efforts. Those accolades include the LIU Post Women of Achievement Award, the Yellow Ribbon Award, the LIU Graduating Student Leadership Award, and the Criminal Justice Department Thomas T. Cacaras Academic Excellence Award.

"She is a great role model, leader and inspiration to all of those around her," said Head Coach Meghan McNamara. "For her to be recognized as a nominee for this prestigious award for her selfless acts is truly incredible. We are proud of her and thank her for all she has done for our Pioneer family. This is an amazing honor for Bridgett."

Soares and the Pioneers rounded out 2013 with a perfect 20-0 mark, and a second-consecutive NCAA Division II National Championship. For more information on LIU Post women's lacrosse, please continue to visit www.LIUPostPioneers.com.
