	CALIFORNIA, Pa. (Sept. 13, 2013) - The LIU Post volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches Friday at the Vulcan Invitational in California, Pa. The Pioneers opened with a 3-0 victory over Davis & Elkins, before dropping a 3-0 final to Cal (Pa.).
	The Pioneers took the opening contest in straight sets over the Senators, winning 25-18, 25-21, and 25-17. Sophomore Melissa Hansen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led all attackers, tying her career-high in kills with 11. She also added a .500 hitting clip. Shelby McCool (Eugene, Ore.) remained dominant in her freshman year, chipping in a strong 10 kills and six digs.  Junior Heather Adams (Centerville, Ohio) continued her consistency, finishing the match with a .313 attack percentage. Senior Geony Fisher (Goodyear, Ariz.) led the Pioneers with nine digs, while junior Lulu Centro (Rome, Italy) had a match-high 37 assists.
	
	LIU Post held a huge advantage in kills, limiting the Senators to a mere 26 to the Pioneers' 39. Elizabeth Estes (Fort Mohave, Ariz.) was the kill leader with six, while Nicole Miller (Jefferson Hills, Pa.) scooped up a game-high 16 digs.
	
	Match two on the day had a very different outcome than the other games so far this season for LIU Post, as it was unable to win a single set, with  scores of 14-25, 19-25, and 24-26. California (Pa.) dominated the first set, only allowing the green and gold to have seven kills, while the Vulcans finished the first set hitting .371. Hansen and senior Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) each knocked down seven kills for the Pioneers, while senior Susy Cricchi (Borgovelino, Rieti, Italy) and McCool added six apiece. Hansen finished with another impressive hitting clip, posting a percentage of .462. Centro led the Pioneers with 23 sets, and sophomore Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawaii) collected a team-high 15 digs.
	
	For the Vulcans, Laurel Miller led the way with 13 kills, Julie Henderson tallied 37 assists, and Samantha Rudy registered 18 digs.
	
	The Pioneers continue play at the Vulcan Invitational Saturday (Sept. 14), as they face off against Clarion and Notre Dame (Ohio) at 11 a.m., and 2 p.m., respectively.
