Volleyball Loses Five-Set Battle at Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2013) - On Tuesday night, senior middle blocker

Shelby McCool (Eugene, Ore.) posted 15-kill showings, but it wasn't enough, as the LIU Post volleyball team lost to Adelphi, 3-2, at the Center for Recreation and Sport in Garden City, N.Y. The defeat snaps a four-match winning streak for the Pioneers.
After losing the opening set, 25-18, LIU Post (8-3) rallied to win the next two by identical 25-21 counts. In the second stanza, the Pioneers led 20-14, until a 7-1 run by the Panthers (5-6) knotted things up at 21-apiece. But, the visitors got the final four points to tie the match at 1-up. McCool accounted for three of the points with kills, while junior middle blocker
Heather Adams (Centerville, Ohio) contributed a service ace.
In the third set, Adelphi came back from five points down (15-10) to cut the deficit to one (20-19) late. LIU Post finished strong though, tallying five of the last seven points, en route to grabbing a 2-1 advantage in the contest. McCool led the way once again, notching a kill, and a block assist, alongside
Susy Cricchi (Borgovelino, Rieti, Italy).
However, the Pioneers were unable to hang on, as the Panthers rallied to take the fourth (25-17) and fifth (15-6) sets, and win the match, 3-2. The hosts jumped out to an insurmountable lead in both periods, anchored by four-kill performances from Kaitlyn DeStefano (Farmingdale, N.Y.), Shelby Stoner (Anchorage, Alaska) and Amanda Borges (Bayonne, N.J.).
Namahoe finished with a double-double (15 kills, 10 digs). McCool added nine digs to her 15-kill effort. Adams chipped in 12 digs and six kills. Cricchi amassed six kills, four digs and three blocks. Junior setter
