No. 11 Women's Swimming Defeats East Stroudsburg, 156-104

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (Jan. 14, 2014) 
- In its first meet of the New Year, the 11th-ranked LIU Post swimming team rolled to a 156-104 win over East Stroudsburg Tuesday at Koehler Fieldhouse in East Stroudsburg, Pa. The Pioneers finished first in 11 of 14 events.

The night got off to a solid start for the green and gold, as LIU Post took the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. Senior Tamara Garriock (Duncan, B.C., Canada), alongside sophomores Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.)Marthe Soerensen (Stavanger, Norway) and Seren Jones (Cardiff, Wales, U.K.) posted a first-place time of 1:49.75.

Meanwhile, senior Chelcee Hew (Savage, Minn.), and juniors Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden)Carolin Rademacher (Isernhagen, Germany), and Courtney Delehanty (Oceanport, N.J.) clocked a 1:53.41 in the event. The meet also finished strong for the visitors, as Garriock, Delehanty, Soerensen and sophomore Meghan Brazier (West Vancouver, B.C., Canada) won the 200-freestyle relay in 1:40.14.

In the individual events, Kwok, Garriock and Rademacher all came in first in a pair of events. Kwok was tops in the 50-yard butterfly (26.98) and 200-yard backstroke (2:13.60). Garriock registered first-place showings in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.04) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.14). Rademacher cruised in the 100-breast and 200-IM, clocking times of 1:07.30 and 2:08.82, respectively.

Three other swimmers for the Pioneers, who won their sixth-consecutive dual, bested their competition as well. Pettersson was victorious in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the pad at 1:09.96. Brazier finished in 25.14 in the 50-free, which was good for first place. Delehanty placed at a close second (25.47).

Lastly, Jones extended her arms to a first-place performance in the 100-yard butterfly. She topped the second-place swimmer by nearly two full seconds with a 1:01.58.

Head Coach Maureen Travers and her LIU Post squad return to the pool Saturday (Jan. 18), when they welcome Siena to the Pratt Natatorium in Brookville, N.Y. The meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
