Ball Nabs ECC Rookie of the Week Honors

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Oct. 21, 2014) - For the second time this season, freshman middle blocker Heather Ball (Gilbert, Ariz.) of the LIU Post volleyball team has been recognized as the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week, it was announced Monday.

In three matches last week, Ball slammed down a team-leading 27 kills and rejected 11 blocks, while hitting at an impressive .382 clip. She only committed six errors and served four aces in the process.

Ball notched 10 kills in back-to-back wins over NYIT (3-2) and Mercy (3-0). The Gilbert native also posted scintillating attack percentages of .381 and .450 in the two matches, respectively. She followed that up with a seven-kill, five-block effort in a 3-0 shutout of Queens.

This year, Ball is presently the ECC's second-leading blocker with 75, 69 of which have come via assist. Her average of 0.69 blocks per set ranks third in the league. Additionally, she has collected 129 kills and 27 service aces to this point.

Ball and the Pioneers are back in action Tuesday (Oct. 21), when they travel to Oakdale, N.Y. for a 7 p.m. tilt at East Coast Conference rival Dowling.
