Field Hockey to "Stick It To Cancer" on Sunday
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 24, 2014) - The LIU Post field hockey team will "Stick It To Cancer" on Sunday, as it hosts its annual Play4theCure game against Bentley at 11 a.m.
"Raising funds for various forms of cancer is important to the LIU Post family," said Head Coach
Raenee Savin (Nesconset, N.Y.). "I look forward to our Play4theCure game every year."
Throughout the game, the Pioneers will sell raffle tickets along with baked goods and tee-shirts. All proceeds will benefit the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR). The NFCR is an official charity of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, and its mission is to support cancer research, while providing prevention education and early detection information to the public. Play4theCure is truly and uniquely embedded in the field hockey community.
"Playing and hosting our Stick it to Cancer game really hits home for my teammates, as well as other student-athletes in the LIU Post community, because we have been affected by cancer in so many ways," said junior midfielder
Cindy Russell (Sound Beach, N.Y.). "We enjoy being able to play for those who continue to battle and for those we have lost. It is important to show support both on and off the field."
