Valenza Selected as ECC Rookie of the Week

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Nov. 3, 2014) - On Monday afternoon, freshman middle blocker/outside hitter Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.) of the LIU Post volleyball team was dubbed the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week.

Valenza, who was lauded as the league's top rookie on Oct. 14, amassed a Pioneer-best 19 kills in two matches last week. She also collected 10 digs and four blocks (two solo, two assist), while boasting a .267 attack percentage.

The Hauppauge native got her week started with a team-high 12-kill performance in a five-set showdown against Bridgeport (Oct. 28). Two days later, Valenza had seven kills, two blocks and an ace in a 3-0 sweep of Southern Connecticut State.

In her rookie campaign, Valenza currently ranks as the ECC's fourth-leading kill-getter (297). Plus, her 10 block solos and 44 block assists are 10th- and 20th-best, respectively, on the league's statistical leaderboard.

Valenza and the Pioneers are back in action Saturday (Nov. 8), when they host Daemen in an East Coast Conference tilt at the Pratt Recreation Center. First serve is scheduled for noon.
