Women's Lacrosse Picked as Preseason IWLCA No. 1
GRAND LAKE, Colo. (Feb. 3, 2014) - Fresh off winning its second-straight national title, the LIU Post women's lacrosse team has been selected as the preseason No. 1 squad in the country, according to Monday's IWLCA Division II Top-15 Poll.
The Pioneers, who accumulated 222 points (195 first-place votes) in the ledger, ran past their opposition in 2013, posting a flawless 20-0 clip. Since the program's inception in 2000, LIU Post has compiled a record of 202-35, and captured four NCAA Division II National Championships (2001, 2007, 2012 & 2013).
The green and gold welcome back three All-Americans to this year's team, including last season's IWLCA Attacker of the Year
Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.). Sileo broke the NCAA Division II career scoring record, along with LIU Post's single-season point (178) and assist (117) marks in 2013, en route to earning Synapse Sports Attacker of the Year, ECC Player of the Year and All-ECC first-team accolades.
She is joined by fellow seniors
Katie Rotan (West Islip, N.Y.) and
Melissa Rohr (Bethpage, N.Y.), who round out the three returning All-America selections for the Pioneers. Rotan was named the Synapse Sports Midfielder of the Year in 2013, and claimed All-ECC first-team recognition in the process. Meanwhile, Rohr led the LIU Post defense, which limited opposing squads to just 7.05 goals scored per contest.
The Pioneers face six of the IWLCA's Preseason Top-15 in 2014. They will square off with No. 5 Le Moyne (Mar. 5), No. 7 West Chester (Apr. 15), No. 8 Stonehill (Apr. 12), No. 9 Dowling (Apr. 2), No. 13 New Haven (Apr. 24) and No. 15 Bentley (Mar. 12).
LIU Post commences the 2014 campaign with a three-game homestand, beginning Saturday, Mar. 1 versus Bloomsburg at Hickox Field in Brookville, N.Y. The opening draw is schedule for 2 p.m.
