Complete Release
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Feb. 6, 2014) - Two-time defending NCAA Division II National Champion, LIU Post, headlined Thursday's East Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Preseason Poll. Senior attacker
Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) was named the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.
The Pioneers also begin the season ranked No. 1 in the nation in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Preseason Poll.
LIU Post took home its fourth National Championship in program history last season, sporting an unbeaten record of 20-0. Their 20 consecutive victories set a single-season school mark. The ECC poll has the green and gold receiving seven of nine first-place votes to top the rankings.
Last year, Sileo shattered the LIU Post single-season record for points and assists, tallying respective totals of 178 and 117. Along the way during her record-breaking campaign, she broke the Division II career scoring mark, topping West Chester's Stephanie Kienle's 390-point total. She became the all-time leading scorer as only a junior with an 11-point performance against Bentley on Apr. 28.
Entering 2014, the Wantagh, N.Y. native currently sports 420 career points, and is just 26 shy of surpassing U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Famer Jen Adams, who currently holds the NCAA Division I scoring mark.
Sileo and the reigning NCAA Division II National Champion Pioneers open up their 2014 schedule on Saturday, Mar. 1, when they host Bloomsburg in a non-conference duel at Hickox Field in Brookville, N.Y. The opening draw is slated for 2 p.m.
