Sileo Erupts Again as No. 1 Women's Lacrosse Tops Holy Family, 22-2

ASTON, Pa. (Mar. 15, 2014) - Senior attacker Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) tied a career-high with 13 points Saturday to power the No. 1 LIU Post women's lacrosse team to a 22-2 drubbing of Holy Family in Aston, Pa.

Tied 1-1 more than 10 minutes into the first half, the Pioneers (6-0) rolled off six unanswered goals over a seven-minute stretch to grab a 7-1 lead. Sileo assisted on the first four tallies, two of which were by freshman attacker Stefani Vagelatos (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.). She also added a marker of her own at the 13:27 mark.

Paige Settar (Mullica Hill, N.J.) responded for the Tigers (1-3) with an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to five (7-2), but LIU Post closed out the period on a 7-0 run to bring a 14-2 cushion into the break. Senior attacker Morgan Chiarenza (Nesconset, N.Y.) led the green and gold's offense in the burst, collecting four points (2 G, 2 A).

During the latter half, the visitors continued to tack on more goals, whereas the hosts were held off the scoreboard. Behind a four-point effort in the stanza from Sileo, LIU Post went on an 8-0 spurt to close out the contest. Sophomore defender/midfielder Kaitlin Gaghan (North Massapequa, N.Y.) added two markers as well.

Sileo's 13 points were the most since Apr. 13, 2013 against Stonehill. Chiarenza finished with three goals and two assists for a five-point day. Vagelatos, red-shirt sophomore attacker Alexis Newman (Medford Lakes, N.J.) and senior attacker/midfielder Samantha Losco (Smithtown, N.Y.) each racked up three points. Junior defender Kali Maxwell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) won an overwhelming nine draws and caused two turnovers.

In the cage, senior goaltender Katie Hannan (Gansevoort, N.Y.) got her sixth-straight win, making five saves. Sophomore Grace Deckert (Jarrettsville, Md.) recorded eight stops for HFU. 

The Pioneers more than doubled their opposition in shots (35-11) and draw controls (18-8), while holding a 24-17 edge in ground balls. They were also 5-for-9 (55.5 percent) on clears.

Head Coach Meghan McNamara and her LIU Post squad now return home to square off with East Coast Conference foe Mercy on Wednesday (Mar. 19) at Hickox Field in Brookville, N.Y. The opening draw is slated for 4 p.m.
