BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Mar. 21, 2014) - The LIU Post baseball team lost its second-straight contest Friday, falling by a 3-2 final to Bentley at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville, N.Y.

The Pioneers (4-4) managed six hits off Bentley's (3-7) Scott Lueders, who went the distance to pick up his first win of the season.

Trailing 1-0 in the last of the second, sophomore David Groeneveld (Centereach, N.Y.) lined a double down the left-field line that scored senior Tom Tolan (Malverne, N.Y.) to tie it up. One inning later, freshman Thomas Asbaty (Randolph, N.J.) plated a run with an RBI groundout, giving the hosts a 2-1 edge.

The Falcons would answer in the top of the fourth, however. Dante Padovani singled to right with two strikes to bring home Will Brennan, evening the score at 2-all. From there, both squads stayed quiet offensively until Bentley was able to push a run across in the top of the ninth.

With two strikes, catcher Bryan Rocha singled to left, giving the Falcons a two-out base runner. Rocha would advance to second on a wild pitch, followed by a passed ball that moved him to third. With a full count, leadoff man Sean Keady singled through the left side to give Bentley a 3-2 lead.

Yet, the Pioneers threatened in the bottom of the ninth. After Groeneveld walked to start the inning, senior Vinny Iacono (Nesconset, N.Y.) laid down a successful sacrifice bunt to move pinch runner Kenny Daley (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) to second with one out. But, junior Angel Vidal (Sheepshead Bay, N.Y.) and red-shirt senior Casey McKay (North Massapequa, N.Y.) both struck out swinging to close out the game.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday (Mar. 22), when they host Bentley in a non-conference duel at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville, N.Y. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
