LANTANA, Fla. (Mar. 8, 2014) - The LIU Post baseball team improved to 2-0 Saturday after coming away with a 7-6 walk-off win versus Assumption at the Santaluces Sports Complex in Lantana, Fla.

Freshman Kyle Fagan (Wantagh, N.Y.) delivered a two-run single with one out in the bottom of the ninth, as fellow freshman pitcher Brian Tinney (Farmingdale, N.Y.) earned his first collegiate win in relief.

Trailing 6-2 heading into the last of the fifth, the Pioneers pushed a run across in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to get within one at 6-5. In the top half of the ninth, Tinney struck out two, setting the table for a memorable finish.

Junior Joey Arena (Yorktown, N.Y.) and freshman Thomas Asbaty (Randolph, N.J.) led the frame off with infield singles, putting runners on first and second. Senior John Susino (West Hempstead, N.Y.) came in as a pinch runner for Arena, before senior outfielder Vinny Iacono (Nesconset, N.Y.) moved the runners to second and third via a sacrifice bunt. With two runners in scoring position, Fagan delivered the walk-off knock, a seeing-eye single through the right side, plating Susino and Asbaty for the game-tying and winning runs.
