Baseball Drops Series Opener at Dowling, 11-2

BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (Apr. 17, 2014) - The LIU Post baseball team struggled offensively Thursday, as the Pioneers lost the series opener to Dowling, 11-2, at Golden Lions Field in Brookhaven, N.Y.
 
Dowling (23-8, 11-1 ECC) jumped in front with two runs in the first, two in the second, one in the fourth and three in the fifth, before the Pioneers (12-11, 6-6 ECC) were able to break through with their first offensive action.
 
Freshman Brian Tinney (Farmingdale, N.Y.) led off the sixth inning with the first hit off Dowling's starter, Tyler Badamo. With runners on the corners, senior Tom Tolan (Malverne, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Tinney for the green and gold's first run.
 
Later, in the ninth, junior Anthony Brunetti (Bayville, N.Y.) plated fellow junior Rick Alessi (St. James, N.Y.) with an RBI groundout to first.
 
Junior Joey Arena (Yorktown, N.Y.) fell to 1-3 on the season with the loss.
 
The Pioneers and Golden Lions resume their four-game set with a twinbill at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville, N.Y. on Saturday (Apr. 19). First pitch for Game One is set for noon.
