BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 24, 2014) - On Monday, senior attacker
Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) of the LIU Post women's lacrosse team was named the 2014 recipient of the distinguished Roy Ilowit Award at the LIU Post Student Leadership Awards Reception.
The Dr. Roy Ilowit Award is presented to a deserving student-athlete for their achievements in the classroom and on the field, while also representing the spirit of Dr. Ilowit with an outstanding grade-point average and a high level of character on the playing field. Past recipients of the award include three-sport athlete Taryn Brody (2003) and Tobin Carberry of the men's basketball team (2013).
"This is a prestigious award," said Head Women's Lacrosse Coach
Meghan McNamara, "and we are very proud that Jackie was chosen by the Department of Athletics to receive this honor. She embodies the true meaning of a student-athlete and a leader. She has put her heart and soul into the LIU Post women's lacrosse team, as well as the Department of Athletics here at the University."
Sileo finished her four-year undergraduate career with a 3.68 grade-point average and a bachelor's degree in Psychology. She is pursuing a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and currently holds a 4.0 GPA after her first semester of graduate school.
Her performance on the field this season has rivaled her work in the classroom, as well. Sileo currently leads the country with 73 assists and 112 points to go along with 39 goals. Earlier this year, she became the NCAA's all-time points leader, spanning all three divisions.
