Sileo Nominated For Prestigious Tewaaraton Award
Nominee List
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Apr. 28, 2014) - As the regular season came to a close this past weekend, LIU Post senior attacker
Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) was one of 27 women's lacrosse players nominated for the 2014 Tewaaraton Award. She was the only representative from the Division II level.
The Tewarraton Award is presented annually to the top collegiate men's and women's lacrosse player in the country. The respective winners will be announced on May 29, 2014 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
Sileo, who was selected as the East Coast Conference and Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Player of the Year, has had a season to remember. Placed on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List back in February, the Wantagh, N.Y. product finished with 127 points (47 G, 80 A) in the regular season. Her point and assist totals are currently tops in Division II and the ECC.
On Apr. 2, Sileo placed an indelible mark in the NCAA women's lacrosse record books. After shattering the Division II career mark for points in 2013, she broke the NCAA record for most points all-time, spanning all three divisions (I, II, III), in a 14-9 victory at Dowling.
"We are extremely proud of Jackie receiving this honor," stated Head Coach
Meghan McNamara. "It is a true testament to her hard work, both on and off the field, and impressive contributions to her team." McNamara later added: "She is a great representative for not only our team and University, but for Division II."
Sileo's 2014 campaign isn't over just yet. In its search for a third-consecutive NCAA Division II National Championship, LIU Post is back in action Thursday (May. 1), when it hosts Molloy in an East Coast Conference Tournament semifinal at Hickox Field in Brookville, N.Y. The opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
