CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Apr. 29, 2014) - On Monday, the East Coast Conference gave out its weekly baseball awards, and freshman pitcher James Long (Oceanside, N.Y.) was named the rookie of the week by the league.

Long picked up his first two collegiate wins last week, beating Dominican and Bridgeport. The lefty threw 6.1 innings against Dominican, allowing nine hits, two unearned runs and one walk, while striking out five.

In his next start versus Bridgeport, Long went the distance, scattering five hits, striking out a new career-best nine and allowing just one unearned run. For the season, he has fanned 30 batters in 37.1 innings of work and posted a 2.41 ERA in the process.

Long and the Pioneers return to action on Tuesday (Apr. 29), when they host Felician in a non-conference tilt at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville, N.Y. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
