Tolan Claims NCBWA All-East Region Praise
2014 NCBWA Division II All-East Region Team
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (May 15, 2014) - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its 2014 Division II All-East Region Team on Wednesday, and LIU Post senior third baseman
Tom Tolan (Malverne, N.Y.) was honored as a second-team selection.
Tolan has gobbled up his fair share of accolades this year, as he was previously named the East Coast Conference Player of the Year. The senior received All-ECC first-team laurels at the hot corner position as well.
As statistically impressive as his 2014 campaign has been, it is made even more remarkable by the fact that Tolan played in all of two games last season for the Pioneers. The senior paced the green and gold in eight major hitting categories, including batting at a career-high .361 clip. That average also stood in second place among all hitters in the East Coast Conference. Furthermore, he led the team in on-base percentage (.418), slugging percentage (.418), runs scored (26), hits (44), triples (2), runs batted in (16) and total bases (51).
In addition to his hitting prowess, the Malverne, N.Y. native played spectacular defense all season at third base. Through a total of 89 chances, Tolan committed only four errors for a .955 fielding percentage. Plus, the senior was the best base-stealing threat for the Pioneers, swiping 15-of-19 bags for a 78.9 success rate.
Tolan and the LIU Post baseball team went 18-19 in 2014, including an 11-13 ledger in ECC play. For more information, please continue to visit www.LIUPostPioneers.com.
