Women's Lacrosse Lands Five on IWLCA All-America Squads
GRAND LAKE, Colo. (May 16, 2014) - The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association recently announced the names of its 2014 Division II All-America honorees, and LIU Post had five of its student-athletes recognized.
Three of them garnered first-team accolades. Those selected were senior attacker
Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.), senior midfielder
Katie Rotan (West Islip, N.Y.) and senior defender
Melissa Rohr (Bethpage, N.Y.). Sileo and Rotan were selected to the first-team last season as well.
Senior goalkeeper
Katie Hannan (Gansevoort, N.Y.) and senior attacker
Samantha Losco (Smithtown, N.Y.) were chosen for the second team.
Sileo, who was a 2014 Division II All-North Region first-team selection, won her third-straight East Coast Conference Player of the Year honor at the start of the month. The Wantagh, N.Y. native paces all of Division II in points (141) and assists (87). She has collected at least one point in each of the green and gold's 19 games this season, and became the NCAA's all-time leading scorer in the process. In addition, Sileo was tabbed as the Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Player of the Year, and a nominee for the 2014 Tewaaraton Award.
For Rotan, this is her third postseason award of the campaign, after claiming All-North Region first-team and All-ECC first-team accolades. The West Islip, N.Y. product has excelled in scooping up ground balls, racking up the third-most in the league (44). She also boasts 56 points and 44 goals, which rank ninth- and 10th-best in the conference, respectively.
Rohr, the 2014 ECC Defensive Player of the Year and another All-North Region first-teamer, anchors a unit that has limited the opposition to the second-fewest goals-against (102) in Division II. She sports 35 ground balls, eight caused turnovers and five draw controls in 2014 as well.
Losco followed up her first-ever All-ECC selection with her first IWLCA All-Region nod, and now has added an All-America second-team selection to her awards. She currently sits in the Top-50 amongst the country in five statistical categories, and is one of the Top-5 scoring leaders in the conference. A native of Smithtown, N.Y., Losco has posted multi-goal performances in more than 75.0 percent (14-of-18) of the team's contests.
In the cage, Hannan, a first-year starter as a senior, owns the No. 1 save percentage (.553) and No. 3 goals-against average (5.61) in the nation. She was dubbed the ECC Goalkeeper of the Year and an All-North Region first-team selection earlier this month.
The Pioneers are back at it Saturday (May 17) against No. 1/1 Adelphi in an NCAA Division II Championship semifinal at Donald J. Kerr Stadium in Salem, Va. The opening draw is scheduled for 2 p.m. All of the action will be aired live on NCAA.com
