Sileo Named Finalist For Honda Athlete of the Year Award
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 27, 2014) - LIU Post senior attacker
Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) has piled up the awards after a record-breaking 2014 campaign, and earned another honor Tuesday. She was dubbed a finalist for the CWSA Division II Honda Athlete of the Year Award.
It is the second time in as many years that Sileo has earned this accomplishment. The CWSA (Collegiate Sports Women Awards) recognized her as the Division II nominee for the accolade, representing the sport of lacrosse.
This season, Sileo established a standard for future Pioneers to follow. Her kudos include the following: East Coast Conference Preseason Player of the Year, Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Player of the Year, Tewaaraton Award Watch List Member, ECC Player of the Year and Tewaaraton Award Finalist. She also landed on the All-ECC, CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District, and IWLCA All-North Region and All-America first-team ledgers.
"I am so honored and humbled to be nominated for such a prestigious award. It means so much to me that I am able to represent not only LIU Post, but Division II women's lacrosse," stated Sileo. "This nomination is a testament to my teammates and coaches who have pushed me to my fullest potential. I would not be in this position if it wasn't for them...It is an absolute honor to be up for this award along with so many amazing athletes, both past and present."
Sileo led all players in Division II in points (144), assists (89) and assists per game (4.45) in the 2014 season. She registered a point in each of the green and gold's 20 contests, and had a multi-goal performance in all but four games.
Back on Apr. 2, Sileo, a year after shattering the Division II record for career points, broke the NCAA's all-time scoring mark. An eight-point showing (4 G, 4 A) at Dowling raised her point total to 505, surpassing Division III record-holder Ashley Hansbury's 500-point clip.
"Jackie's accomplishments clearly establish her credentials as an elite athlete, but she is so much more than that," said Head Coach
Meghan McNamara (East Northport, N.Y.). "Jackie brings energy and excitement to the game and our team. She is an exceptional, selfless leader who always puts her team first. I am extremely proud of Jackie and it is an honor for her to be recognized."
In June, the ballot of all of the Division II sport nominees will be voted on, and the Honda Division II Athlete of the Year will be selected. Once chosen, all nominees will be informed and the recipient will join the Division I and Division III Athlete of the Year and the Inspiration Award winner for an awards program in Los Angeles, Calif., culminating with a live one-hour television broadcast.
