Women's Lacrosse Slides to Third in Top-15 Polls
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 6, 2014) - On Tuesday, the LIU Post women's lacrosse team dipped to third in the IWLCA and Lacrosse Magazine Division II Top-15 rankings. The polls are the last before NCAA Tournament action kicks off Saturday.
The Pioneers, who are reigning back-to-back national champions, enter the NCAA fold at 17-1 overall. Last week, the green and gold handled Molloy, 16-4, in the East Coast Conference Championship semifinals, but dropped a heartbreaker to Dowling in the title game, 11-10. The loss for LIU Post snapped a 40-game winning streak, dating back to May 12, 2012.
The only two remaining undefeated teams in the country, Adelphi (19-0) and Limestone (18-0), occupied the No. 1 and No. 2 slots in the ledgers, respectively. The Panthers, who captured the Northeast-10 Conference crown, earned 224 votes (210 first-place), while the Saints racked up 207 votes (15 first-place).
New Haven stood pat in fourth, and Lock Haven leapt forward two places to round out the Top-5. Lindenwood (Mo.), following a 15-6 loss to Limestone, dipped to sixth. A mix of Florida Southern, Pfeiffer and Mercyhurst claimed the No. 7 through No. 9 positions.
Saint Anselm jumped two spots to 10th in the IWLCA census, whereas Regis (Colo.) climbed one rung to conclude the Top-10 in the Lacrosse Magazine tally.
