Women's Tennis Bests STAC, 7-2

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 20, 2014) - The LIU Post women's tennis squad defeated East Coast Conference opponent St. Thomas Aquinas, 7-2, in Saturday's contest in Brookville. The Pioneers took five of six singles flights and two of three doubles matches en route to the victory.

LIU Post's No. 1 singles competitor Didi Fatchikova (Sofia, Bulgaria) remains undefeated in 2014. She knocked off Nyenyeri Kanefu in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. At second singles, junior Lucie Chrastecka (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) also boasts a clean slate on the season, defeating St. Thomas' Bianca Signore by a 6-3, 6-2 count in their singles flight. Fatchikova and Chrastecka teamed up and took their doubles match, 8-0. 

On the day, Laura Harwell (Alabaster, Ala.), Heena Kewalramani (Bangkok, Thailand) and Meagan Byrne (Deer Park, N.Y.) all secured singles victories for the Pioneers. In doubles competition, Harwell and Kewalramani bested STAC's Biehle and DeLeon, 8-6. 

With the win, the green and gold now sport a 4-1 overall and conference mark. They remain third in the ECC standings. 

Head Coach Darrel Bielawski and his LIU Post squad are back in action on Tuesday (Sept. 23), when they host non-conference foe Adelphi in their final home match of 2014. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
