GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Sept. 6, 2014) - After going scoreless in the season opener, the LIU Post men's soccer team erupted for five goals Saturday, four off the foot of senior forward Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway), as the Pioneers blanked Adelphi, 5-0, at Motamed Field in Garden City, N.Y.

Austboe wasted no time getting his squad on the board. From the opening whistle, the Stavanger, Norway native stole the ball away and sent a blast into the back of the net from 35 yards out, giving the Pioneers (1-1) a 1-0 lead just nine seconds into the contest. The nine-second tally is tied for the fifth-fastest goal to start a game in NCAA Division II history.

And it was all LIU Post from there.

At the 12:31 mark of the first half, Austboe would get his second of the contest. Junior midfielder Matias Ruiz (Southampton, N.Y.) took a free kick and Austboe, this time using his head, found the mesh behind the goalkeeper to give LIU Post a 2-0 advantage.

Later, in the second stanza, Austboe would do some dirty work in front of the Adelphi goal, cleaning up a rebound and beating Ahmad Salamah for the 3-0 lead at the 59:28 mark. Just over two minutes later, freshman Jason Lampkin (Hawardon, North Wales, United Kingdom) scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from Austboe, who found Lampkin with a beautiful cross.

To cap off the contest, Ruiz sent a corner into the box where Austboe was able to collect the ball and send his fourth goal home. Austboe's four goals are one shy of the LIU Post all-time record, held by Mike Schirmacher, who scored five goals for the Pioneers against St. Peter's back in 1963.

There was some physical play in the contest, as the teams combined for five yellow cards, four by Adelphi in the second half. In goal, junior Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) made three saves to complete the clean sheet and notch his first win as a Pioneer. Salamah made one save for the Panthers.

Head Coach Andreas Lindberg and the Pioneers return to action on Thursday (Sept. 11), when they travel to Bridgeport, Conn. to take part in the Purple Knight Classic, hosted by the University of Bridgeport. LIU Post takes on Merrimack at 4 p.m.
