Women's Swimming Rolls Past Wagner on Senior Day, 141-121

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 24, 2015) - Highlighted by nine NCAA qualifying times, seven new pool records and 11 event wins, the LIU Post women's swimming team defeated Wagner at the Pratt Natatorium on Saturday, 141-121.
The first event of the meet saw an LIU Post victory, broken pool record and NCAA provisional qualifying time, as Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden), Carolin Rademacher (Isernhagen, Germany), Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.) and Meghan Brazier (West Vancouver, B.C., Canada) raced to a 1:44.53 finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Poppy Hill (London, England) and Jacqueline Tonn (Edmonton, Alberta) completed the 1,000-yard freestyle at 11:33.71 and 11:41.66, respectively. The 200-yard freestyle saw Marthe Soerensen (Stavanger, Norway) touch the pad at 2:01.61, while teammate Kat Kazaba (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) finished closely behind at 2:02.22.
Pettersson took an event win, broke a Natatorium record and posted an NCAA "B" qualifying time with her 55.57 completion of the 100-yard backstroke, as Seren Jones (Cardiff, Whales) secured the No. 3 slot at 1:00.14. Rademacher owned the 100-yard breaststroke and ensured another Pioneer event win as she finished at 1:05.50. Kwok, the reigning 200-yard butterfly NCAA National Champion, boasted a NCAA "B" qualifying time, as well as an event win in the feat at 2:03.46.
The 50- and 100-yard freestyle saw two NCAA "B" qualifiers, as Brazier swam to 23.89 and 51.21 finishes, respectively, breaking a pool record in the latter. Pettersson would also earn a NCAA "B" qualifying time and break a Natatorium record in the 200-yard backstroke, with her 2:00.01 completion. Rademacher earned her own NCAA "B" qualifying time, while breaking a pool record, in the 200-yard breaststroke, as she completed the event in 2:19.09.
Kwok broke a pool record and posted an NCAA "B" qualifier in the 100-yard butterfly with a 54.88 finish, as teammate Pettersson matched Kwok's efforts in the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:03.95 finish. The final event of the day saw an LIU Post 200-yard freestyle relay event win, as Laura Bendfeldt (Grosshansdorf, Germany), Courtney Delehanty (Oceanport, N.J.), Kwok and Brazier touched the pad at 1:37.09.
Head Coach Maureen Travers and the green and gold are back in action next Saturday (Jan. 31), when they compete at the East Stroudsburg Invitational in East Stroudsburg, Pa.
