Wrestling Loses to Wilkes at "Grapple at the Garden", 33-6

NEW YORK, N.Y. (Nov. 29, 2015) - On Sunday, the LIU Post wrestling team came out on the short end of a 30-6 loss to Wilkes University at the 2015 Grapple at the Garden, held at Madison Square Garden.

Sophomore Joe Calderone (Huntington Station, N.Y.) highlighted the day on the mat for the Pioneers (1-4). He defeated reigning NCAA Division III National Champion Matthew Grossman (Lancaster, Pa.) by a 5-4 count in the 133-lb. bout.

Fellow sophomore Matt Langan (Wantagh, N.Y.), who moved up a weight class, earned a 5-1 win over James Palys (Scotrun, Pa.) at 157 lbs.

Sophomores Ed Ramirez, Jr. (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Jake Horton (Medford, N.Y.) fell by one-point decisions in the respective 165- and 197-lb. disciplines.

Head Coach Joe Patrovich and his LIU Post squad are back in action Friday (Dec. 4), when they travel to Moorhead, Minn. to face Minnesota State University-Moorhead at 4 p.m.
