Moran, Postel To Be Honored By Long Island Metro Lacrosse Foundation

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Nov. 9, 2015) - On Saturday, Jan. 30, former LIU Post women's lacrosse standout Trish Moran will be inducted into the Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame, held at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale.

Moran, a 2004 graduate and 2013 LIU Post Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, built one of the finest resumes in Pioneer history. A four-time IWLCA First Team All-American, Moran set the then-program record for points with 346 points from 2001-04.

Moran, who was named the 2004 IWLCA Division II Attacker of the Year and led the country in scoring in back-to-back seasons (2003 & 2004), currently stands second all-time at LIU Post in career goals (216) and third in career assists (130).

Furthermore, Moran spearheaded a Pioneer offense that went on to capture the program's first-ever NCAA Division II National Championship in 2001, following a 13-9 win over West Chester University.

Meanwhile, the longest-tenured head coach in the 56-year history of the LIU Post men's lacrosse team, Tom Postel, will be the recipient of the 2015 Harvey Cohen Outstanding L.I.M.L.F. Service Award.

Postel mentored the Pioneers from 1986-2006, compiling a career coaching record of 140-122 (.534). He led the green and gold to their first-ever national crown in 1996 and subsequent championship appearances in 1998, 1999 and 2000.

In addition, Postel took to the turf as a student-athlete at LIU Post, where he shattered and still holds the program's career records for goals (144), assists (125) and points (269), and single-season marks for goals (60) and points (96). He was also a member of two separate U.S. Men's National teams (1974, 1978), one of which captured the world title in Melbourne, Australia, and served as a coach for another in 1986.

Lastly, Postel, a 1967 alumnus, received induction into the National Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame in 1986 and was a member of the inaugural LIU Post Athletic Hall of Fame induction class in 2005.

" Coach Postel is a focal point in the lacrosse community. He was an extraordinary player in college and post-collegiate, both in club and with the U.S. Men's National Team," said Head Men's Lacrosse Coach John Jez. "His knowledge of the game and ability to make pivotal in game decisions are the keys that made him  a great coach. His interaction with his players and ability to bring the best out of them helped him to establish LIU Post as a national contender. Coach Postel is one of the most well-respected men in all of lacrosse. His commitment to the lacrosse community and involvement in multiple organizations is unmatched. Anyone that has ever come in contact with Coach Postel knows what a wonderful person he is. I am excited for Coach Postel being honored as the recipient of the 2015 Harvey Cohen Outstanding L.I.M.L.F. Service Award."
