BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 3, 2015) - LIU Post Head Volleyball Coach
Shellane Ogoshi (Levittown, N.Y.) revealed the signing of five recruits to National Letters of Intent on Tuesday. The Pioneers will look to utilize the talents of all five signings to earn a bid to their fourth-straight NCAA Tournament, and reach the 20-win plateau for the fifth time in six seasons.
Outside hitter
Rachel Londot (Utica, Ohio) is coming off of an incredible 2014 season that saw her earn Licking County League and Central District Player of the Year honors. Playing for Utica High School, Londot had 12 performances of 20-plus kills for the Redskins and a total of 499 kills on the season. She posted a 22-kill, 29-dig night in a five-set victory over Lakewood High School back on Aug. 28. In her four-year varsity career, Londot recorded 1,587 kills and a .332 hitting percentage, while amassing 1,379 digs and 187 service aces.
Libero
Natalie Miller (Scottsdale, Ariz.) comes to Long Island from Notre Dame Preparatory High School, where she proved herself as an effective defensive specialist over her four-year career. In her senior season, Miller boasted a digs per set average of 3.8 and collected a total of 315 digs on the year. She reached the 10-dig plateau in 16 different contests over the course of the campaign, and had three nights with 20-plus digs. One of her top performances on the season came in a five-set loss to Seton Catholic on Sept. 11, in which she attained 29 digs.
Middle blocker
Zahara Harrison (Lewis Center, Ohio) dominated the front row for Olentangy Orange High School in her three years as a varsity player. Harrison had 158 kills and 153 blocks in her senior season for the Pioneers, leading them to a 14-10 record. She was the 2013 Ohio Capital Conference Offensive Player of the Year and a three-time OCC Scholar-Athlete honoree. Harrison also sported a .215 hitting percentage in her senior season, well above the national average for middle blockers.
Setter
Giulia Genna (Civitella San Paolo, Italy) will look to make an impact and continue the run of strong Italian players that have made their marks on the LIU Post program. Genna was a four-year regional tournament participant and competed four times in the Italian national championships over the course of her long career. She comes to Brookville with a good volleyball pedigree. Genna's sister, Alice, is a setter for NCAA Division I program North Carolina Central.
Finally, the signing of middle blocker
Elise Strange (Chesapeake, Va.) will give the Pioneers added depth in the front row for both offense and defense. Strange was a two-year varsity player at Hickory High School in Chesapeake, where she was a two-time All-Pensouth Conference 10 selection. She was part of two conference champions in high school, and never lost a Pensouth Conference 10 game (14-0) in her Hickory career. Last season, Strange was a force to be reckoned with, holding a .423 hitting percentage and a blocking clip of .505.
