LANTANA, Fla. (Mar. 11, 2015) - The LIU Post baseball team got a dominant pitching performance from sophomore Jake DeCarli (Higganum, Conn.) on Wednesday, as the Pioneers defeated Nyack, 9-4, on get-away day at the Santaluces Sports Complex in Lantana.

DeCarli was dealing early, as the righty struck out five of the first six batters he faced and didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning.

The Pioneers (2-4) got on the board early after a bases-loaded walk to Matt Bowers (Staten Island, N.Y.) plated a run in the bottom of the first.

Then, in the third inning, Bowers singled up the middle to bring in another run, making it 2-0 in favor of LIU Post.

In the fourth, the green and gold scored two more to pull away from the Warriors (0-9). Kenny Daley (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) capped the scoring in the frame with a two-out RBI single to right.

DeCarli's day ended after 7.2 innings. The righty allowed one earned run, struck out eight and walked three to earn his first win of 2015.

Offensively, Daley, catcher Thomas Asbaty (Randolph, N.J.), Bowers, shortstop Rick Alessi (St. James, N.Y.) and right-fielder John Bellock (Glen Cove, N.Y.) all recorded two-hit games. Bowers added two RBIs to lead the charge.

Head Coach Mike Gaffney and the Pioneers are set to return to action on Sunday (Mar. 15), when they host Le Moyne for a doubleheader at the LIU Post Baseball FIeld for their 2015 home opener. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
