Dani Crouse (Westville, South Africa) and freshman attacker
Kaycee Zelkovsky (Lambertville, N.Y.) were recognized as 2014 Gladiator by SGI/ NFHCA Division II Scholars of Distinction, as annoucned on Monday.
Student-athletes selected as Scholars of Distinction have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2014-15 academic year. Both Crouse and Zelkovsky owned a 4.0.
A special education major, Crouse's academic prowess on the field mirrors her athletic accomplishments. Collecting NFHCA/Longstreth First Team All-America,
Synapse Sports All-America First Team, NCAA All-Tournament Team, ECAC Defensive Player of the Year, ECAC First Team, Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year and Northeast-10 First Team accolades, the Westville, South Africa native tallied nine goals and eight assists, good for 26 points, through the 2014 campaign. She was a key component in a Pioneer defensive line that ranked No. 1 in all of Division II for scoring average (3.88) and second for scoring margin (2.80).
Zelkovsky, a health sciences major, made a major impact on and off the field throughout her rookie season. Boasting Northeast-10 and Synapse Sports All-Rookie selections, the attacker started in all 22 contests and added 11 goals and five assists to a nationally ranked LIU Post offensive effort. She was an integral component in the Pioneer's postseason run to the NCAA National Championship Final.
