DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 20, 2015) - Despite snowfall in the forecast, the LIU Post baseball team defeated Mercy, 3-1, in its 2015 East Coast Conference opener at Mercy Field in Dobbs Ferry.
Sophomore pitcher
Jake DeCarli (Higganum, Conn.) kept the Mercy (3-8, 0-1 ECC) bats quiet, tossing 7.2 innings and allowing just one hit. The righty yielded one unearned run, while fanning eight and walking three. Fellow sophomore
Dan Jagiello (West Islip, N.Y.) notched his first save of the season with 1.1 of scoreless relief. He also only surrendered one hit, and added three strikeouts.
Continuing his hot start, graduate outfielder
Vinny Iacono (Nesconset, N.Y.) collected two hits and drew a walk. Sophomore outfielder
Kenny Daley (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) had the lone RBI for the Pioneers (3-4, 1-0 ECC) with a run-scoring single in the first to stake LIU Post to a 2-0 lead. The green and gold took advantage of some sloppy play behind the plate, scoring two of their three runs off wild pitches.
Head Coach
Mike Gaffney and the Pioneers are back in action on Saturday (Mar. 21), when they resume their four-game set with Mercy at 2 p.m. in Dobbs Ferry.
