GRAND LAKE, Colo. (Mar. 23, 2015) - The LIU Post women's lacrosse team slipped two places to 10th in the latest IWLCA Division II Poll, released Monday. The Pioneers also maintained a No. 11 ranking in the most recent Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Division II ledger.
LIU Post dipped on the balloting, despite picking up two wins over the last week. First, the Pioneers romped to a 20-11 victory over Philadelphia on Thursday (Mar. 19), thanks in large part to an eight-point outing from sophomore midfielder
Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.). Bird collected five goals and three assists in the victory, while winning a team-high seven draw controls. Then, on Saturday (Mar. 21), the green and gold grinded out a 6-4 win over Roberts Wesleyan in the team's second East Coast Conference game of the season. Senior midfielder
Jenna Pierro (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored a hat trick in the effort. Sophomore attacker
Stefani Vagelatos (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) netted a pair of goals, as well.
The top three programs from last week's polls held serve again this week, as Adelphi reigned over Lock Haven and Lindenwood. Another NE-10 school holds the No. 4 position, but a different squad is slotted fourth in either ledger. Le Moyne is the IWLCA choice for fourth, with the Dolphins earning an 18-10 win over now-No. 6/7 New Haven. But, in the Nike/LM Division II tally, Stonehill is tabbed as No. 4, as the last of four still-unbeaten programs in Division II women's lacrosse. Both the IWLCA and Nike/LM rankings agreed on Florida Southern earning the fifth overall ranking.
LIU Post is back in action on Wednesday (Mar. 25), when the Pioneers host No. 12 Saint Anselm at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville, N.Y. The opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
