BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Mar. 29, 2015) - The No. 10/11 LIU Post women's lacrosse team won the second game of a back-to-back Sunday, defeating Findlay, 16-6, at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Leading 2-1 nearly midway through the opening half, the Pioneers (8-2), who won their fifth-straight contest, tallied six unanswered goals in a span of 2:50 to widen the gap to 8-1 at the 16:02 mark. Sophomore attacker
Stefani Vagelatos (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and sophomore defender/midfielder
Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) twice found the back of the cage in the run.
LIU Post eventually carried a seven-goal advantage (10-3) into the break, after sophomore defender/midfielder
Honey Roche (Centerport, N.Y.) recorded back-to-back tallies in the final 2:01 of the period.
In the second half, the green and gold notched four of the first five goals to extend their lead to double digits (14-4). Senior midfielder
Jenna Pierro (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored and assisted on a
Kaitlin Gaghan (North Massapequa, N.Y.) tally in the spurt.
That would seal the victory for the Pioneers, as Findlay (2-5) only came as close as 14-6 the rest of the way.
Sophomore midfielder
Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.) amassed a game-high six points (2 G, 4 A) and three draws. Douglas had five points (4 G, 1 A) and three ground balls. Pierro (3 G, 1 A) and Roche (1 G, 3 A) finished with four points apiece. Pierro also totaled four ground balls and four draw controls, while Roche scooped up three ground balls and caused three turnovers. Gaghan and senior defender
Emily Hanifan (Hicksville, N.Y.) each earned three caused turnovers, as well.
Between the pipes, freshman goaltender
Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made a game-best eight saves for LIU Post, which won the shot (33-20), ground ball (24-16) and draw control (13-11) battles.
