Women's Lacrosse to Join Fight Against Cystic Fibrosis on Saturday

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 16, 2015) - In addition to paying homage to its three seniors, the LIU Post women's lacrosse team will be spreading awareness on Cystic Fibrosis at Saturday's game versus St. Thomas Aquinas.

For the Pioneers, the genetic disorder hits close to home. Sophomore defender Kelly Backus (Oceanside, N.Y.) has a rare gene mutation of Cystic Fibrosis. Though it has been life-changing for her, Kelly continues to work as hard as possible to keep her life normal and not let it interfere with her goals.

Bracelets will be sold for $2 at the front gate on Saturday in support of the cause. All proceeds will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and "Team Kelly Anne".

On June 7, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is scheduled to host its Great Strides Walk at 9 a.m. at NYIT in Old Westbury. So far, a total of $66,260 has been raised in the fight in 2015.
